New Head of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire

New appointment to SLUHSCP

South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership is delighted to confirm the appointment of Paul O’Neill as Head of Health and Social Care.

Following a highly competitive interview process, Paul formally started in his new role on Monday 9 December 2024.

Professor Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer for South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “My congratulations to Paul on his new role within our senior leadership team and as part of our health and social care family.

“Recent reports by the Audit Commission have highlighted the importance of effective leadership for and within health and social care services.

“Paul brings an exceptional track-record of delivery characterised by professionalism, teamwork and compassion. I look forward to the significant contribution that his leadership is going to make to our collective commitment to both deliver safe and effective care and to develop sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse communities that we serve.”

Paul added: "I am truly honoured to step into this role as Head of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire.

“This is a great opportunity to work alongside dedicated colleagues and partners to deliver compassionate, effective and sustainable services for our communities."

Paul graduated from University of Strathclyde with a BSc in Adult Nursing Studies in 2005 and has also completed a Master of Business Administration with Distinction.

Paul has a background in adult nursing and worked in Prisoner Healthcare between 2006 and 2017, latterly as Clinical Manager and then Service Manager for Prisoner Healthcare. Paul became Locality Service Manager for Cambuslang and Rutherglen in 2017 and also served as Acting Locality General Manager before joining NHS Lanarkshire’s Interface Division as General Manager in September 2024.
