A forthcoming meeting of South Lanarkshire’s Integration Joint Board (IJB) will consider a range of options to keep people safe – whilst negotiating a harsh financial landscape.
Members will consider proposals to assist in responding to increasing costs, the reduced level of funding being made available - and to still be able to provide essential services to the people of South Lanarkshire. 
As a recovery plan - to be formally considered by the IJB on 19 September 2023 - has been published, an essential guide has also been set out bring further clarity to the broader context and background. 
Lesley McDonald, IJB Chair explained said: “No one wants to be in this financial position – and it is not one of our making.
“But we all recognise that we have a responsibility to acknowledge fully and deal with the reality of the situation, particularly if we are to protect services and supports for the most vulnerable and at-risk across our communities. 
“Our essential guide is part of our commitment to candour, openness and transparency.”
Professor Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer of the IJB: “The size of the funding gap is such that addressing it will have implications for how services are provided. There will inevitably be difficult choices just ahead.
“We remain, however, resolutely committed to supporting the most vulnerable people.”
